Emerging / Emerged
North London’s ground-breaking aerial circus company Scarabeus have commissioned three brand new works from young trans and queer artists and invited them to perform the works in progress at Jacksons Lane.
Tough Boys Dance Collective, a queer-led dance theatre company who make contemporary, multidisciplinary work, have created DJ as Witness, exploring the dancers’ perspective on the multifaceted experiences within queer clubs; from consensual offloading to sexual expression, and the cathartic release of moving together.
Recent National Centre for Circus Arts graduate Izzy Bloomer has created Breaking Point, an exploration of emotional fragility combining aerial and movement work with theatre and spoken word.
Multidisciplinary artist Jetsun presents his solo work Paguroidea, a fluid movement piece portraying the emotive story of a BPOC queer individual embarking on a journey of transformation.
The evening is completed by a screening of Emerging, Scarabeus Aerial Theatre’s highly personal performance which centres on the relationship between a trans son, who has questioned his gender identity for as long as he can remember, and his mother.
Post-show talk The works-in-progress and the screening are followed by a post show talk with the artists. Hosted by producer Flora Herberich.
